2015 Itinerary


This year Shepherd of the Valley is sending nine ambassadors to visit our partners in Tanzania. Kirsten leaves Minnesota June 29, Pastor Chris and the rest of the group follow on July 7. They all come home together on July 23.


Here's what is planned for each day -- but things can change when amazing opportunities come our way!

Monday, June 29: Kirsten departs MSP to AMS

Tuesday, June 30: AMS to DAR, overnight at Wista’s Inn

Wednesday, July 1: Bus to Iringa with Pastor John Mhekwa

Thursday, July 2: Meetings at Bega Kwa Bega and with diocese staff; purchase medicines, bikes, and mosquito nets

Friday, July 3: To Tungamalenga, meeting with partnership committee

Saturday, July 4: Tungamalenga Parish, village congregation visits at Idodi, Kibaoni, Mpalapande, Kitisi, and Mapogoro

Sunday, July 5: Tungamalenga Parish; worship at Tungamalenga, meeting with parents of scholarship students, village congregation visit at Namelok

Monday, July 6: Makifu Parish, meeting with parents of scholarship students, partnership meeting, village congregation visits at Kisilwa and Misufi

Tuesday, July 7: Pastor Chris & Group depart MSP to AMS. Kirsten at Makifu Parish, village congregation visits at Ikwavila, Mahove, and Mahuninga

Wednesday, July 8: Group - AMS to DAR, overnight at Wista’s Inn. Kirsten - Makifu Parish, village congregation visits at Malunde, Isanga and Makambalala

Thursday, July 9: Group - Bus to Iringa, dinner & overnight at the Lutheran Center. Kirsten to Iringa, visit Ipogoro primary school with General Secretary Chavalla, visit Ihemi school construction site with Pastor John Mhekwa

Friday, July 10 Orientation at diocese office; markets; Huruma Center

Saturday, July 11 To Tungamalenga Camp; Makifu Parish visits at Kisilwa and Misufi

Sunday, July 12 Makifu Parish, worship & village congregation visits at Mahove, Ikwavila, Mahuninga

Monday, July 13 Makifu Parish village congregation visits at Malunde, Isanga, Makambalala

Tuesday, July 14 To Mwagusi Lodge at Ruaha National Park, with guests George Kioniani and Rev. Paulo Masinga

Wednesday, July 15 Mwagusi Lodge with guests

Thursday, July 16 Return to Tungamalenga Lodge; meet with Health Care Committee to discuss expansion of Dispensary

Friday, July 17 Tungamalenga Parish, village congregation visits at Idodi and Namelok, visit Idodi Secondary School

Saturday, July 18 Tungamalenga Parish, village congregation visits; marriage celebration for Peter Harrits & Jenny Buckley at Mpalapande

Sunday, July 19 Tungamalenga Parish, worship; PM to Iringa

Monday, July 20 Iringa; Isimila Stone Age Site

Tuesday, July 21 Bus to Dar, overnight at Wista’s Inn

Wednesday, July 22 Dar es Salaam—Sea Cliff and Slipway; 10:40 PM flight

Thursday, July 23
AMS to MSP; arrive around noon

  1. after traveling with a St Paul church group in 2014, I also met and became a devoted Pastor Israel student. He is remarkable. Could you, under separate cover, if possible, tell me 1) how his current health is and 2) how you have sent him some funds. I have done this for his crops, and his house which was pretty destroyed in the summer storm of 2014, via Western Union. Is this the best way?
